Da Vinci Raw Sienna artist watercolor is an earthy yellow with soft red undertones whose two-part name originates from the raw state of the original pigment and Siena, Italy, where it was once produced. (Fun fact: Burnt Sienna came from the same pigment that was heated or “burnt.”)
Not only is Da Vinci Raw Sienna absolutely beautiful on its own, reminding one of autumn grasses and desert dunes, but Raw Sienna can also be used in mixes to create a wide range of natural colors. Raw Sienna’s warm, rosy, semi-transparent nature make it ideal for creating realistic effects in landscapes, still lifes, and portraits and is a great earth-yellow option for maintaining transparency in mixes.
