Too cool to be a maroon and too warm to be purple, Perylene Violet is closer to the earthen color of a rich Bourdeaux or a sun-ripened plum. Very darkly valued in masstone, Perylene Violet's red undertones are more visible when first applied but will cool and soften as it dries and dilute into a smooth range of luscious violets.
Perylene Violet is an all-around excellent color for florals, landscapes, and portraits, and although it works very well as a shadow color, its unique coloration can also lend an interesting pop to paintings. Perylene Violet mixes easily into rosy reds and browns, mysterious darks, muted violets, and misty mauves. Perylene Violet's calm ambiance and striking color shift is very hard to showcase in a swatch, so we think you'll have a wonderful time trying this excellent color for yourself!
