Da Vinci Raw Sienna artist oil is a reddish earth brown whose two-part name originates from the raw state of the original pigment and Siena, Italy, where it was once produced. (Fun fact: Burnt Sienna came from the same pigment that was heated or “burnt.”) With its ability to create a vast range of natural colors in mixes and its suitability for techniques such as glazing or underpainting, Raw Sienna has been used by landscape and portrait artists for centuries and highly prized for its characteristics, color, and versatility.
