Da Vinci Phthalo Blue artist watercolor is a highly transparent, intense blue with green undertones. Often considered a “true blue” by artists, Phthalo Blue is a perfect palette primary, and its high pigment load and superior tinting strength also make Phthalo Blue an economical choice for a palette.
Although richly dark in masstone, this highly staining blue flows boldly and easily across a page and becomes much brighter and even more transparent in dilution. Phthalo Blue will create deep shadows along with luminous washes and also lend itself to exciting effects.
Da Vinci Phthalo Blue is a ready mixer, and although it can quickly overpower other colors, it’s able to mix among the clearest, brightest hues that artists use. For those who prefer a warmer version, we also offer Phthalo Blue in a red-shade option.
