Rich in history and heritage throughout the world, Alizarin Crimson has been valued for more than 3000 years as a dye and colorant. Da Vinci Paints was the first to formulate a lightfast version of Alizarin Crimson as an artist color, and for more than 40 years, we’ve offered our lightfast Alizarin Crimson to artist as an excellent substitution for the original pigment which is highly fugitive.
Da Vinci Alizarin Crimson Artist Oil is a single-pigment, transparent, dark red with cool undertones and high tinting strength which allows it to work exceptionally well when glazing. Alizarin Crimson oil paint is useful for mixing an amazing range of oranges and violets and also tinting into luscious shades of rosey pinks. Mixing Alizarin Crimson with green results in beautiful browns and rich earth tones along with varying shades of greens, and this combination will also easily combine into a neutral gray or black. It’s no surprise that many artists find Da Vinci Alizarin Crimson indispensable when painting!
For a convenient, darker version of Da Vinci Alizarin Crimson that is a great shortcut to muted oranges and violets along with exceptional darks, see Da Vinci Alizarin Crimson Deep.
